Hello there.

Welcome to my blog. I document my adventures in life. Hope you have a nice stay!

Spring, Splints, Sprouts

Spring, Splints, Sprouts

Now before anyone goes calling DCFS, I just want to set the record straight…I broke Ellie's leg on Friday. No seriously, I broke her leg :( we fell down the stairs in each other's arms frantically searching for some mystery savior to cushion our fall. We found my ass. And my elbow. And her leg. She has a buckle fracture in her femur which should be healed by her first birthday. If we get a cast, she says you can sign it. Also, Father’s Day is cancelled this year.

I know during times like this it feels natural to direct sympathy towards the victim(s) of such a preventable accident. I just want to ensure your sympathy is pointed in the right direction. If anyone deserves sympathy at a time like this, it really should be me. SHE has a very tiny, hardly noticeable crack in a bone in her leg. Totally invisible. I on the other hand, have suffered AT LEAST three counts of bruising/skin abrasions on and around my person. SUPER noticeable AND you can’t put a cast around any of them! I have to heal out in the open, exposed to all types of bruise-honing danger. So again, thank you for thinking of us, mostly me, during this difficult time.

As a result of this bleak and unforeseeable affair, our annual Spring tradition of preparing our yard and garden was quite literally overshadowed. I blame Punxsutawney Phil for the six extra weeks of darkness. As our seedlings continued to grow safely under the warmth of our grow lights, we took our sweet, sweet time in revitalizing our backyard for the season. I don’t think the plants minded in the slightest. To help us get back on track, our nephew Braxton was kind enough to help us remove all of the garden box tarps and directly sow a few seeds into some of our newly tilled soil. In addition to preparing the garden, we took on the daunting task of planting the newest members of our botanical family along the north side of our house. It took a few days of backbreaking, finger numbing labor, but I think it will be worth it in the seasons to come. All things considered, I think we made the most of a slippery situation.

It has been nice taking advantage of the warmer weather. Eating outside on our deck and watching the tulips emerge from the ground have been the perfect remedy for mending broken bones and thawing icy demeanors. Eliana should be getting out of her splint in the next few weeks. Just in time to start enjoying the fruits of our labor. Now without further ado, please enjoy a slideshow of Ellie with her new and improved femur!
