I feel humbled and grateful after hearing the latest news. Humbled by the impact you had on our community. Humbled by the brevity of your stay in hospice. Humbled by the number of people that showed up to make one last video for you. Grateful to have known such a remarkable and kind person. Grateful for creating one last memory for you to enjoy. Grateful to continue this journey of life with you in my memory. 

As I get older and more acquainted with death, I realize how beautiful this all is. It’s a cliche for a reason. You have made me want to be a better person and focus on pursuits that truly make a difference to those around you. You made me realize how much of an impact one person can have in this world. And literally every interaction can change a person’s life. 

I’ve been choosing to be vulnerable in every interaction I have with a fellow human being. You have encouraged me to go out of my way to approach each new conversation from a place of love instead of a place of fear. It can be hard to put yourself out there, and sometimes you get burned, but i really believe that even in the interactions that don’t go well, you make a small difference to that person. And maybe, just maybe...they’ll remember that interaction if ,and when, they have a change of heart. 

I’ve made it my goal not to shy away from anyone. Whether they are a new coworker or customer, you’ve taught me to look them in the eyes and really see them for a moment. To treat them as an equal, with respect. 

I will miss my friend and mentor. You were a gentle giant who created kindness with every footstep.
